Description

The Jewish cemetery in Buk was established around the middle of the 19th century, about 1.5 km east of the town, towards Nowa Wieś. Buk's Jewish community was small and dwindled over time: 118 Jews lived here in 1808, 266 in 1880, 70 in 1921 and 31 in 1938. In autumn 1939 Buk's Jews were assembled at the railway station and deported; almost certainly all of them perished. The cemetery was devastated during and after the war. In June 1988 the site was fenced and tidied with the help of the Nissenbaum Family Foundation. Few gravestones survive. Please keep quiet and respect the place.
