Description

The monument on Stanisław Reszka Square was unveiled on 1 September 1989 to a design by the sculptor Józef Kopczyński – four concrete blocks with a metal eagle on the tallest. It commemorates residents of Buk and the area who died in the Greater Poland Uprising of 1918–1919 and in later struggles for independence; the town raised two of its own insurgent companies. In 2008 granite plaques with 226 insurgents' names were added. The monument replaced an earlier memorial and the 1747 column of St Stanislaus that stood by the parish church – both were destroyed by the Germans during the occupation.
