Former synagogue (Town Hall auditorium)

The first, wooden synagogue in Buk burned down during the unrest of the Spring of Nations in 1848. The present brick building on Mury Street was raised around the turn of the 20th century (sources give dates from 1893 to about 1905) in the Neo-Romanesque style, to a design by Alfred Grotte. During the occupation the Germans devastated the synagogue and used it first as a holding jail for Buk's Jews, then as a carpentry workshop. After the war the building lost its religious function; since 2017, following a thorough renovation, it has served as the Municipal Hall – hosting civil weddings, town-council sessions and cultural events. Together with the adjacent former Talmud school it was entered in the monuments register on 1 February 1988.
